Procrastinating can actually become a viscous cycle. The more we procrastinate, the more we feel an internal pressure to get something done….this can cause more anxiety leading us to procrastinate more! The best way I have found to deal with procrastinating is to break my task down into some very, very small goal. For example, many people set New Year’s resolutions such as exercising more. If we say our goal is to exercise three times a week for 45 minutes that can seem very challenging to do because we have not exercised in the past at all or for that long! But how about if we break that down to smaller chunks ? – then it doesn’t seem so overwhelming. For example, how about if I exercise for just 10 minutes today…as soon as I get up? And that I do that every day for two weeks? After that, I can add 5 minutes and exercise for 15 minutes for two weeks, then add another 5 minutes and so on. Is there a way you can break down something you have been putting off doing into a smaller, easier and reachable goal?
